It's a Fairy Tales Ending for Lice
Each year in the US, there are more than 12 million cases of head lice. Most of these cases occur in children and are a result of direct head-to-head contact. Lice can also be spread by sharing brushes and hair accessories, as even by sharing headphones, helmets and hats. Treating and preventing the spread of lice, then, is one key element to having a healthy, happy kid.
There are three stages in the head lice cycle. Lice begin as colorless eggs that are laid at the base of the hair shaft where it is warmer. Lice eggs hatch in seven to ten days and become easier to see. Once the egg has hatched it is called a nit. The nits are smaller than the size of a pinhead and turn brown as they develop; they are notoriously difficult to remove. The nit is fully grown after approximately seven days and becomes known as a louse. The louse can survive for up to 30 days on a human head. Lice cannot survive off of the human head, however, for longer than 36 hours and are not affected by water.
Help to prevent lice in your child by teaching to not share their personal belongings, such as brushes, combs, headphones, pillows, etc. If your child has longer hair, keep the hair up and coat the hair with a hair product that contains rosemary and citronella that have been shown to repel lice. Such products include Fairy Tales Rosemary Repel Shampoo and Fairy Tales Rosemary Repel Spray and Shield Hair Spray. Keep your child's jackets and outerwear accessories in a sealed bag, or at least separate from other children's belongings. Check your child's hair for lice on a weekly basis, paying particular attention to the nape, behind the ears and the very top of the head where lice are found more often. Refrain from washing your children's hair daily as lice prefer clean hair where they can attach more easily without build-up of products and natural hair oils. Finally, know the symptoms of head lice, which include itching of the scalp as well as red bumps or sores on the scalp or possibly even the neck.
If your child has contracted lice, comb the nits out of the child's hair with a Fairy Tales Terminator Comb, taking care to remove them all. Choose from the wide selection of Fairy Tales lice treatment products, like lice shampoo, to help with the removal of the nits if preferred. Further, you will then want to wash all bedding in hot water each day and carefully vacuum all possible areas of the home. Finally, check all family members for lice during the treatment period to avoid reinfestation.
